Who We Are & What We Do

Mission

Delaware County Pride is an organization made up of members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies in rural NY. We seek to create a network of resources and support; build and strengthen community; and promote equity and inclusion.

LGBTQIA+ is an acronym that describes people who do not identify as heterosexual, cisgender, or straight. The letters stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning (which includes people who are gender fluid and/or non-binary), Intersex, and Asexual. The plus acknowledges that the words to describe gender and sexual identity are not limited to LGBTQIA and are constantly evolving. Examples of other letters that may be included are 2S for the native specific 2 spirit and P for pansexual. We also wish to include those for whom a specific letter doesn't feel authentic.

Goals

Creating support groups for LGBTQIA+ adults, youth and their caregivers.
Addressing homophobia and injustices in the community.
Honoring Pride Month.
Holding social events that provide a supportive environment for interaction between our members.
Providing LGBTQIA+ resources to libraries, schools, and the community.
Building alliances with other organizations in the Delaware County area.
Creating a list of local LGBTQIA+ owned and/or friendly businesses and service providers.
Hosting a website that provides easy-to-access information for the LGBTQIA+ community and their families.
